The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is part of the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC).
It was established in 1967 to administer a fledgling system of national parks.
Since then, our responsibilities have been greatly expanded and we now manage nearly six million hectares of parks and reserves – more than seven per cent of all land in NSW.
They manage a variety of protected areas, including national parks, nature reserves, Aboriginal areas, historic sites, state conservation areas and regional parks.
